Connected drums: outdoor geolocation


Context :

Leader in the cable industry, Nexans uses wood and steel drums to store and transport cables for its clients such as Enedis.

Customers spend millions of dollars every year by renting drums surrounded by cables. Collecting empty drums and  purchasing  new ones to renew the partly lost, stolen or damaged fleet entail significant costs for Nexans.

Problem 

The annual cost of logistics is above one billion of euros, without taking into account costs about losses and misuses.

Also, it's estimated that 300 drums are lost per year, what generates an investment of around 500k € devoted to the pruchase of news drums by the company. This non-optimal management of the drums fleet affects negatively the profitability of the Nexans model as well as its efficiency. 

Solution of ffly4u 

As part of a 6 months' pilot, ffly4u has fixed GPS emitters on a 500 drums' fleet distributed among two industrial sites allowing assets geolocation through a web platform.

Results : 

The system implemented by ffly4u made possible to reduce downtime on construction sites, to reduce the costs of drums management by 20%, to optimize return transport flows and to follow-up in real-time the progress of Enedis' sites. The pilot was thus successful.

The prospects for development are many: development on international sites, extension of the technological base via different networks, widening the solution to other equipment.

Indoor geolocation of goods and temperature follow-up


Context :

Casino, a major food retailer, uses in a closed pool (it means that the assets, which belongs to it, remain within its perimeter), several thousands of handling equipment in its warehouses.

Problem :

Each year, due to a lack of means to manage these assets, several thousand of these materials must be bought again to cover losses or storage in unidentifiable locations. This waste of several hundreds of thousands of euros per year affects the profitability of the model, and even the environmental impact of this activity.

Solution of ffly4u : 

In order to eliminate these costs, ffly4u proposed a global location service for a price of 5 to 10 € per year per asset including the follow up of temperature.

A pilot was engaged: 10 fflyLoc MICRO were installed on 10 metal pallets, on a perimeter of 2 warehouses for a duration of 4 months.

A web portal has been designed and customized via Thingworx to visualize the main indicators of management of these assets during their movements: inventory to date, duration of immobilization, sms and e-mail alerts, real-time location on map ...

Results : 

Proven functionality of the deployed technology, detection of multiple assets defaults (located on the wrong sites, fixed downtimes are important, turnover is perfectible) and pertinent economic deployment in several sites.

The temperature monitoring also proved the relevance of the solution: it is now possible for this customer to follow a possible break in the cold chain of his goods.

Lorries geofencing on industrial site or section’s site


Context :

Saint-Gobain, the market leader in plaster and insulation, uses dedicated lorries to store and transport its products on site.

Problem :

Lorries are becoming a mobile storage area hardly localizable. Warehouses are located in two industrial sites, therefore it is difficult to know if a lorry is well located on the good site.

Solution of ffly4u 

As part of a 6 months' pilot, ffly4u has offered a geofencing proposal on two industrial sites, allowing lorries to answer the question “am I on the industrial site, yes or no?”.

Results : 

Proven functionality of the deployed technology and detection of multiple defaults on lorries located on the wrong site or with a significant downtime. This pilot also highlighted a new possible service: to detect if the lorry is loaded (full, 1/2 full, ...) or not (empty) in order to optimize its use.
